This post over at the Great Orange Satan is a terrific overview of the process that would have to occur to make Puerto Rico a state. Lots of political hurdles to overcome on both sides, and I wonder if there really is the political will to get it done on either, but it is a pretty exciting idea. Probably the best asset will be outgoing Gov. Fortuno, who is a very connected pro-statehood Republican who presumably could get Republicans here to support the idea. That he got elected at all might help convince Republicans that they wouldn’t just be giving up a bunch of Congressional seats, maybe. I’m definitely following this one.
