‘Cause it’s Thursday:

  • Tim Pawlenty is surprisingly conversant on the music of Lady Gaga. On the basis of being up-to-date with pop music, he easily beats out Mitt “Who let the dogs out?” Romney.
  • The Muslim Brotherhood might be fracturing.
  • It seems like I’m always reading stories about how the Libyan rebels are making progress against Khadaffy, and yet victory never seems any closer. I don’t know what to make of it. Anyway, this seems like some legit good news, and despite my continued displeasure at the Administration for getting involved–truly, it’s been a Dylan going electric moment for me with regards to Obama–I really do hope I’m wrong about the mission and that the old tyrant goes.
  • Jim DeMint opposes reducing Senate confirmations: “The reason we have gone from a few hundred confirmations during President Kennedy’s time to thousands today is because of the incredible exponential growth of the federal government — new departments everywhere, where we have new positions that have to be filled with nominees who are confirmed by the Senate. Rather than look at the behemoth we have created, we are moving to make it somewhat less accountable.” Fair enough, though population growth and increasing social complexity have a lot to do with it too. But, much like the debt ceiling standoff, this is backward when it comes to trying to shrink government. It is, however, straightforward in terms of being able to manipulate the executive branch into giving you what you want.
