I knew Bill O’Reilly was pretty fucking stupid but this takes the cake:

O’REILLY: I’ll tell you why [religion's] not a scam, in my opinion: tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You cannot explain why the tide goes in.

SILVERMAN: Tide goes in, tide goes out?

O’REILLY: See, the water, the tide comes in and it goes out, Mr. Silverman. It always comes in, and always goes out. You can’t explain that.

Yes, O’Reilly is as pridefully ignorant as the Insane Clown Posse.

Speaking as a Christian, I really, really hate these glib “defenses” of religion. This is almost Kirk Cameronesque in its idiocy. Look, if there were an argument for any religion that simple that was right and couldn’t be defended against, there would be no atheists. There’s a reason why there have been so many thousands of books on the subject, and I doubt O’Reilly’s coreligionists are thanking him for reducing everything to a silly sound bite.

This sounds more like Hannity material to me, on account of its stupidity. There’s less and less of a difference between the two.

As a Christian, he is not one that I would chose to defend anything, let alone Christianity.
