A mosque in Texas was heavily vandalized last weekend, coming in the wake of a national intolerance movement by the right wing against Muslim places of worship. On Friday, members of the Dar El-Eman Islamic Education Center, in South Arlington, found “graffiti depicting Uncle Sam and Allah in a sexual position spray-painted in the parking lot.” Then, early Sunday morning, in a case of suspected arson, a fire destroyed playground equipment at the mosque, causing $20,000 worth of damage. The vandals also cut a pipe, allegedly thinking that it was a natural gas line.I’d bet you a million dollars that the fucktards who did this also think that “Obama is taking away our freedom” or “health care reform is unconstitutional!” or other similar nonsense. Irony is apparently lost on those with feeble minds.

As someone who was the object of this type of hatred, prejudice, bigotry, and/or racism while growing up in this country under segregation, I find these tools to be a prime example of what is wrong with this country. They think it is okay to destroy the First Amendment's Establishment Clause because of their ignorance. I see nothing wrong with Muslims building this center. In fact, the council has already approved it, and the building has been used by Muslims for over 20 years, iirc. This is much ado about nothing. I strongly believe that the greatest threat to America is not Muslims, African Americans, undocumented immigrants, immigrants, gays, lesbians, the trans-gendered, or most Caucasians. It is these religious fundamentalists and Dominionists who want to force the rest of us to bend to their will that is the real threat to our country. They will stop at nothing to impose their will on the rest of us, and deprive us of our First Amendment rights. We must never cease to oppose them. My experience will not allow me to acquiesce to their demands because I believe that as soon as they are successful in suppressing one group, they will move on to the next one. Since they are never satisfied, there is no other option except constant opposition to their demands.
