I so get this xkcd cartoon.  Does anyone else with a GPS run into this problem?  It happens to me all the time:

I "get" it, but I also sympathize with the person trying to give directions. My sister and her family came to visit three summers ago, after flying into Vancouver, BC. I live in Oregon, about 450 miles away from the US/Canada border. Yet, if you know what you're doing, you only need to take two turns on the drive from there to here, to arrive at my front door. The directions my brother-in-law had (he told me later) were much more complicated, and followed a more direct line, but with many more opportunities for confusion. My directions may have added a couple of miles to the travel distance, but followed faster roads with fewer stop lights.

After hearing the horror stories of people lost on logging roads in the winter because they trusted GPS, I feel like I might often know better than the mechanized system.
