I’ve watched the full tape now of Obama’s masterful performance at the GOP House retreat yesterday.
The thing that struck me about a lot of the questioning was that Republicans were just about as defensive as they could be about their obstructionism.
Marsha Blackburn literally said this: “Thank you for acknowledging that we have ideas. Because we do have ideas, we have plans!“
It’s was just so funny to watch this get brought up again and again. It was like watching a kid repeatedly tell mommy “Yes I did brush my teeth! Geez!”
You want people to think you have ideas? Stop obstructing, get off your my-way-or-the-highway soapbox and start trying to engage.
Oh yeah, across-the-board tax cuts don’t count as ideas. Try again.
Methinks they protest too much.

Hey, I want across the board tax cuts. And to eliminate tax breaks comensurately. It's definitely an idea.
Of course, I want to combine this with some big spending cuts. Say, eliminating the entire Department of Education, much of the Department of Agriculture, and half the Department of Defense.
Yeah yeah
Eliminate 1/2 the dept of defense, but keeping the conventional forces, and we could do everything else we want to do!
Keep living in that dream world…
yup, we need tax increases
…and/or other spending and entitlement cuts.
I would prefer to cut almost exclusively (as with Paul Ryan's proposal). But we can compromise.
However, I will stipulate that any of the tax increases you want should be broad-base…a VAT would be ideal.
send a memo to your conservative pals in congress about supporting tax increases and then we can talk ;-)
