It really warms my heart to know that conservative evangelical Republicans are protecting the sanctity of marriage from The Gays:

Jenny Sanford announced today that she will file for divorce from embattled South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who admitted in June to an affair with a longtime lover in Argentina.

“I am now filing for divorce,” she said in a statement. “This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family.”

Sanford moved out of the South Carolina governor’s mansion with the couple’s four children in August.

To their credit, Republicans have capitalized on this horrible affront to the sanctity of the blessed, super-holy institution of marriage by introducing legislation to amend the U.S. Constitution to make adultery illegal:
H. J. RES. 56 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to marriage.

JOINT RESOLUTION Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to marriage .

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification:

“Article — “

SECTION 1. Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a faithful man and a faithful woman. Neither this Constitution or the constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to permit adultery between married persons without mandatory felony charges being brought against the offending spouse. ”

Of course you need to remember that the spokesman for the conservative family values section of the Republican party has been married three times and changed his religious values twice. One of the reasons that people are fleeing the Republican party in droves. They do not have a clue and cannot practice what they preach. They are all about forcing others to do what they want regardless of thefact that they cannot meet their own standards.
