I just received this gem of a comment on an old post. I’ll let it speak for itself:

well why do u discount that there is a god, how could oneman change time, ie bc to ad.. be the most known man in all time, you say jesus, people say yeah i know, or yeah i followhim, or yeah f*** him… every1knows tho… how could it not be true, so be ready cos the judgement is near, i will pray 4 u to turn to the truth :) and believee me i know the devil is real, i used to worship him, i have an inverted cross on my arm as a reminder hmm
All I have to say is my current quote in the sidebar:
“I have only ever made one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.”

How does the world pull itself away from the worship of ignorance and the fear of magic even in the presence of overwhelming and ubiquitous technology?

Oh, I think I can answer my own question:

"Better than a thousand hollow words
Is one word that brings peace.
Better than a thousand hollow verses
Is one verse that brings peace.
Better than a hundred hollow lines
Is one line of the dharma, bringing peace.
It is better to conquer yourself
Than to win a thousand battles.
      Then the victory is yours.
It cannot be taken from you,
Not by angels or by demons,
      Heaven or hell."

Setting aside the risible "changed BC to AD" (by which he probably meant to ask why the birth of Jesus marks the start of the Common Era if he wasn't really special), the rest is an amusing attempt to build on an argumentum ad populum

how could one man [..] be the most known man in all time, you say jesus, people say yeah i know, or yeah i followhim, or yeah f*** him… every1knows tho… how could it not be true

See it's not just "if many believe so, it is so"--oh no, it's extra special: "if many believe so, plus many others have heard of it but don't like it, it is so".

hmm, sounds like a conversation we had earlier today :)

Mans choice in what he believes in is between himself and the Lord, not the "church", not society, and definitely not a group of right winged fanatics who cannot even approach a life like the Lords. I do not have the right to judge you, Metavirus, or anyone else. Neither does any Christian. We are to live our lives as examples and leave the judgments to the Lord. Unfortunately most people who call themselves Christians cannot meet the basic definition of a Christian. Brings to mind the great quote "I love your Christ, I dislike your Christians."
