I realize that neocons and fringe rightists must always ponder military solutions, but John L. Perry seems to have strayed a wee bit past the pale with his latest column:

There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.

America isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it. So, view the following through military eyes:

  • Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”
  • Top military officers can see the Constitution they are sworn to defend being trampled as American institutions and enterprises are nationalized.
  • They can see that Americans are increasingly alarmed that this nation, under President Barack Obama, may not even be recognizable as America by the 2012 election, in which he will surely seek continuation in office.
  • They can see that the economy — ravaged by deficits, taxes, unemployment, and impending inflation — is financially reliant on foreign lender governments.
  • They can see this president waging undeclared war on the intelligence community, without whose rigorous and independent functions the armed services are rendered blind in an ever-more hostile world overseas and at home.
  • They can see the dismantling of defenses against missiles targeted at this nation by avowed enemies, even as America’s troop strength is allowed to sag.
  • They can see the horror of major warfare erupting simultaneously in two, and possibly three, far-flung theaters before America can react in time.
  • They can see the nation’s safety and their own military establishments and honor placed in jeopardy as never before.
  • So, if you are one of those observant military professionals, what do you do?
[..] Anyone who imagines that those thoughts are not weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America’s military leadership is lost in a fool’s fog.

Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a “family intervention,” with some form of limited, shared responsibility?

Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the president would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making.

Military intervention is what Obama’s exponentially accelerating agenda for “fundamental change” toward a Marxist state is inviting upon America. A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama’s radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.

Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem. Just don’t shrug and say, “We can always worry about that later.”

In the 2008 election, that was the wistful, self-indulgent, indifferent reliance on abnegation of personal responsibility that has sunk the nation into this morass.

No, I think credit goes to the execrable mindset of people like John L. Perry.

  1. I'm. I'm. Speechless.

Hating your government does not make you a good American. It makes you an enemy of the state.

  2. Anonymous says:

Hating unConstitutional destruction of our national sovereignty, our RIGHTS our FREEDOMS under the Constiuttion makes us AMERICANS!! We will not TOLERATE the Bill of Rights being suspended by force. We will respond, thank you, as our fathers did. We will NOT SEE the USA handed over to totalitarianism. Not now, not ever -- and we SEE the plan of the CFR. You people are ASLEEP and think this is a right/left issue. No dumb shits. BHO is GWB -- and they were/are BOTH enemies of the Constitution and the USA working for foreign powers. Duh! They want to see the USA go UN in a "New World Order" which is nothing more than the 4th Reich gone international through the UN. How ASLEEP ARE you??? Grow up and quit thinking this is right vs. left. See the real issues and wake up.

Yet more fear mongering to justify situation ethics to over turn an election that they cannot seem to realize that they have lost.

  3. anonymous says:

Scott -- When the Government is unConstitutional -- good Americans ARE considered enemies of the State. Don't you know that every totalitarian Government considers those who advance civil rights and human rights against the "State" are considered "enemies of the State". Do you want to live in a totalitarian nation where those who oppose the Government and advance civil rights are considered "enemies of the State"?? That's Russia. That's China. That's Cuba. That's North Korea. If you get SO caught up in thinking you are fighting fellow Americans with whom you have MINOR political disagreements… they really are minor… and you embrace totalitarianism by which to oppose your rivals declaring them "enemies of the State -- guess what?? You've won your battle and lost the war. The Bill of Rights is gone.

    • schu says:

And of course you and yours are the ones who decide for the rest of us what is constitutional and what is not! Not the courts, and defiantly not the the voters, but only a few who seem to think that they can decide what is right. And that my freind is the first steps to totalitarianism.

  4. Metavirus says:

jeebus tapdancing christopher. the ever-racheting insanity on the right is going to drive me insane by the time obama's first term is up, isn't it? these are the same mouthbreathers who had absolutely no problem with Bush suspending habeas corpus, performing illegal wiretapping and surveillance and torturing people. but give a black guy 9 months to pass some of his comparatively not psychotically illegal agenda and -- REVOLUTION!! VIOLENT OVERTHROW!!! USURPER!!!! INSURRECTION!!!!!!11!!!!!!

like a "world leader" said recently to obama: "Barack, explain to me this health care debate. We don't understand it. You're trying to make sure everybody has health care and they're putting a Hitler mustache on you — I don't — that doesn't make sense to me. Explain that to me."

    • anonymous says:

I opposed the Patriot Act under GWB. I'm going to agree with you that people were locked in a right/left paradigm. By self-imposed blindness, they wanted to be on the "right" against the "left" -- and slit their own throats by supporting the Patriot Act. THEN, Obama states that he's going to end the Patriot Act, etc., etc., etc. What does he do?? Approves the Patriot Act. States he's going to continue indefinite detention. First states he's going to go through Congress to enact "law" to do so -- then says, "No, I have executive POWER to indefinitely detain people." He has NOT ended the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. He's Bush on steroids. It's ridiculous to view this as a "black/white" or "left/right" matter.

Why isn't the left realizing that GWB and Obama are two heads of the same oligarchy?? Why is the left now doing the same thing the right did -- giving Obama a "pass" on all the activities they protested against Bush vehemently declaring Bush to be a Hitler??

      • schu says:

Anyone who compares US politicians to Hitler of Stalin has a very limited sense of history and is a mud slinging hypocrite with his own agenda!

    • anonymous says:

Please allow me to explain this to you. One of Hitler's initial moves was State "healthcare". Then, he told everyone, "See… you are being forced to "foot the bill" for these useless eaters -- the handicapped, the aged, the infirm." And based on price politics -- and socialized healthcare -- he state the handicapped, the aged and the infirm must be euthanized for the greater good of the State and the people. You have the "health czar" Dr. Emanuel on record stating that the handicapped, the aged, the infirm are not productive contributors to society and it is just on some "Comparative Life Evaluation" (a paraphrase) to deny them healthcare. You have the "science czar" on record stating that the State has an interest in murdering it's own population "for the greater good". It's a direct parallel of Hitler for these reasons and more. It's FACT -- not a right/left or white/black battle.

  5. DORN says:

The government is the form and function under the constitution not the elected individuals subverting that system. I can dislike those that "represent" me and still be an American. I can hate the president and still be an American.

Thomas Jefferson said "A little revolution now and then is a healthy thing". He also said "The tree of liberty must be watered, from time to time, by the blood of tyrants and patriots."

Certainly I don't want to see a military coup. Nor do I see one coming anytime soon. But I am discouraged by the run toward socialism/fascism/big brother. But the fact remains the republicans took us that way also. Since OB hasn't changed much merely continued the policies of his predecessor and expanded them a bit, What exactly are the republican fringe bitching about?

  6. Oh My God! If everyone around you is telling you you're crazy, STOP and think about it for a second. You just might be. I'm not going to freakin argue with someone that can't figure out how to put his real name next to his comment.

    Oh My God!

    • Metavirus says:

seriously. the wackos (who didn't utter a peep during the 8 years that Bush was shredding the Constitution) occasionally drop by and take a big dump of crazy in the comments. very sad

    • schu says:

Like metavirius, schu, etc are our real names. We did cover this earlier.

      • Metavirus says:

at least with pseudonyms, there is the ability to follow someone and see if they're nutty or not. anonymous commenting is ok but i'd prefer that people at least pick a word to describe themselves

  7. Metavirus says:

sully's reaction is right on the money: "It's a staggering sign of what happens when no-one in a major political party is prepared to stand up to extremism"

  8. schu says:

Considering how many ranking military people have come out in support of our current President, I wonder where the self claimed expert is going to get his bannan republic general from?
