I posit a question on Facebook to a friend who was dogging Jimmy Carter for his comments on racism and Obama:

Let me get this straight. Do you agree with the proposition that a sizable portion of the anger and hatred directed at Barack Obama (especially by people from the South) is due, in part, to racism?

If yes, then you’re being needlessly cruel to a tireless public servant because he’s saying something you substantially agree with.

If no, then you’re either lying, not paying attention or constitutionally incapable of finding and acknowledging fault with people who travel a similar path.

I’ll report back on what his answer turns out to be.

Some times it is fun pinning these people down. Oh no, I don't like him because he's black, besides he's not really black, and he is a commie, a socialist, a Muslim, and a terrorist. Not knowing that if he was a Muslim he could not be a Communist. They cannot wrap their brains around the idea that they have lost an election to a black man, so the hate and name calling continue.

People believe what they want to believe, facts and logic have very little to do with it.
