Ok so I turned my blocker off to see them, and yes I'd probably find them pretty annoying, but then ALL ads annoy me, because I'm not used to ignoring them. I can't stand the internet without a blocker--it becomes a very foreign place.
Anyway, since I ordinarily don't see them I'm personally more bothered by your normal red link colorscheme that's so difficult to distinguish from ordinary black text. What's wrong with the blue or at least underlined link text we're all accustomed to??!?!?!

hmm, an interesting point on the brownish links. came that way with the template. i will look into it
unfortunately all the link colors in the template are linked to the same A style definition (bad templating!). i like the idea of having a more readable color for post body text but want to keep the brownish for the sidebars.

i think underlines is a good change although i would only want them in the post body and not for the sidebars. hmm, maybe bold too? looking into how to most efficiently specify the attributes for only the body text is on my to-do list
As long as you do not go to a none white background I can ignore it. None white back grounds would drive me away because I have a hard time reading them.
