The wisdom of The Queen of the WASPs (and Duchess of REAL America) shines forth as she blames all of the insurance-organized Astroturfed near-riots at Democratic town halls on the Democrats:
As DougJ analogizes:We have entered uncharted territory in the fight over national health care. There’s a new tone in the debate, and it’s ugly. At the moment the Democrats are looking like something they haven’t looked like in years, and that is: desperate.
They must know at this point they should not have pushed a national health-care plan.
[....]
You know what would happen if he did this (nixed health care legislation)? His numbers would go up. Even Congress’s would. Because they’d look responsive, deliberative and even wise. Discretion is the better part of valor.Absent that, and let’s assume that won’t happen, the health-care protesters have to make sure they don’t get too hot, or get out of hand. They haven’t so far, they’ve been burly and full of debate, with plenty of booing. This is democracy’s great barbaric yawp. But every day the meetings seem just a little angrier, and people who are afraid—who have been made afraid, and left to be afraid—can get swept up.
This is a variation on Douthat’s argument that Americans should surrender their reproductive rights if they want pro-lifers to stop murdering people. It’s setting the stage to blame Obama if the teabaggers do something terrible. It’s part death threat and part snake oil about how REAL AMERICA feels.Yes, videos like this (where the paid astroturfer wingnut in question asserts that Obama will be issuing “end of life orders” just like Stalin, Pot Pot and Hitler) are obviously the fault of the Democrats:
Someone should really talk to banks about keeping all that money lying around. It just invites bank robberies!
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people today?

It’s amazing to me that Mitt Romney brings up France as a scary comparison point to himself so often when he spent years there and speaks the language. It’s such a minor point, but telling. All of this is the exact kind of political insanity that completely turned me off to civic involvement in prior years. I still shudder at seeing so many people dishing and buying this crazy destructive crap, but remain willing to stay involved now because at least the crazies aren't running the nut house. It all just makes me sigh, and reinforces the critical need for education, especially in this democratic republic.
LOL @ Peggerton Noonanshire
I think this is just wishful thinking from noonanshire, like we should cave in to a small amount of folks still pissed off that they lost the election…bottom line is Obama ran on universal healthcare and he won with a mandate, now he can do it…thats how it works…
In the pay of the corporations the GOP spreads its lies and leads the insanity. The Health Care Industry lead by the various insurance companies pays lobbyists millions to spread false rumors and make up stories and edged on by the sensationalists at Fox, who will make a story if they do not have one. The same people who tried to profit from the failed Social Security reform, that would have lined their pockets, who allowed their mismanagement of the economy to cause the greatest recession since the Great Depression, are leading the fight against financial reform and health care reform. If you bother to follow the money trail you can see how it all plays out, and who gets paid off.
