Gherald highlights an interesting graph illustrating the key part of the country that is unsure whether Obama was born in the U.S.:

Gherald’s post reminded me of these quotes over at Balloon Juice:
“50 years ago you shouted nigger, 30 years ago you talked about States Rights, now you ask to see the president’s birth certificate.” — commenter Eric K

“You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites.” — Lee Atwater

  1. Kevin says:

I dont buy it, this is not racism.

This is xenophobia, slightly different. This is about the fact that he has foreign grandparents, if Obama was latino they would be saying he was born in Mexico. Why do I say its not racism? well imagine this; Jesse Jackson is elected president, would people be asking for his birth certificate? No, because he has no ties to other countries, all his relatives are American born. Think about it for a second, its not that simple as to say its racism, its xenophobia. Remember when they called Kerry 'french looking'? again, its xenophobia…think about it

I'll answer questions if I didnt make myself clear :)
