From a great post by John Cole on the state of the remaining GOP base:

They’re crazy and they are increasingly isolated and insular and speaking a language that only makes sense to them. It is just that simple. I have my doubts about the Democratic party, but at least they are functioning in a reality that I can relate to and understand. When we look at the sky, we see the sun and clouds, and not a heliocentric conspiracy to deny the existence of God.

They were all set to defeat Hillary, and could not shift gears fast enough to challenge Obama, so they lost. They still can not believe that they have lost an election to a black man. You can find this in the birth certificate issue, on weather or not he is a Muslim, and in the attacks on what the minister of the church he attended said. This old fear of the black voter, founded in the rural area of the Republican heartland, is driving the party insane. Especially since the party cannot admit to the problem, so that they can address the problem, without admitting the extent of their bigotry. Until they can get this issue behind them, the Republican Party is in for a very rough ride.
