I think I’ve figured out a big reason why I have no affinity for the Republican Party of today:

“In essence what you’re saying, I think, is that I’m going to, I don’t care what the law says, I’m going to come out, I’m going to pursue an outcome that I think is fair and just. I’m going to rewrite the law. And I think that’s dangerous.”

- Alberto Gonzales, a former attorney-general who secretly approved of breaking the Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on Torture, speaking about Obama’s desire to find empathy in a judicial nominee.

They appear to have absolutely no sense of irony.

Update, Exhibit B: Joe [the Fake Plumber] Wurzelbacher works to prove my point:

[W]hile literally sitting in front of boxes containing numerous copies of his recently released book, Wurzelbacher said:

You gotta at least respect that I’m not sitting there trying to make a buck off my 15 minutes. Do I want to make some money? Absolutely but I’m going to do it the right way.
Not seeming to recognize the irony, immediately after making this statement, he then signed a copy of his book. While acknowledging that he hasn’t made as much money as he thought from the book, he said he thinks he has about a year left in the spotlight, adding, “I can also definitely see it from the other side where people are just like ‘Man just freakin go away!’”

I am still bummed that Joe the Unlicensed Plumber bailed on the GOP. I was really hoping that he'd end up being Palin's VP candidate. Eventually, I suspect the GOP will get their act together. For now, I'm just happy to watch the train wreck.

it really is quite entertaining, on the one hand. on the other hand, i'm a little scared that all the unhinged insanity is going to boil over into some actual violence. after all, what are red-blooded True Patriots to do when they're being crushed under the bootheel of a communist Black Nationalist dictator?

  2. rimbaud says:

The Republican train has boarded too many kooks and is now infested with them. True conservatives need to get on a different line.

  3. Schu says:

This is just another example of Republican situational ethics. What I did was for the good of the nation, what he is doing is destroying the nation.
