In a new John Harwood piece in the NY Times, former GOP chairman contender Saul Anuzis had this to say about their grand strategy to reclaim their rightful role in government :

“Rhetorically, Republicans are having a very hard time finding something that raises the consciousness of the average voter,” said Saul Anuzis, a former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party who recently lost a bid to became national party chairman.

Workaday labels like “big spender” and “liberal” have lost their punch, and last fall, Senator John McCain of Arizona and Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska gained little traction during the presidential campaign by linking Mr. Obama’s agenda to socialism.

So Mr. Anuzis has turned to provocation with a purpose. He calls the president’s domestic agenda “economic fascism.”

“We’ve so overused the word ‘socialism’ that it no longer has the negative connotation it had 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago,” Mr. Anuzis said. “Fascism — everybody still thinks that’s a bad thing.”

Isn’t it amazing how these idiots don’t have the self-awareness to realize that saying stupid shit like this will probably backfire?

Reading the above quote, I can’t avoid the image of Grand Vizier Michael Steele and the GOP High Council sitting around a large table in a cigar smoke-filled room in, say, Kennebunkport and furtively flipping through a well-worn copy of 10,000 Slurs and Insults Guaranteed to Bring Down Your Enemies!

So, they’ve tried Socialist, Liberal, Communist, Pinko, Pantywaist, Hippie and Weak-kneed, among countless others…

What’s next? Murderer? Sheep Shagger? Faggot? Stalinist? Rapist? Bolshevik? Mongol? Celine Dion?

Astounding. Astounding watching this destructive ignorance and blatent manipulation at play, and not even feeling some shameful awareness about it all, but rather loudly blabbering to the media with pride. Of course, with toxic entertainers such as Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh resembling the pitiful insane ranting hateful "cousins" that society used to commit and try to help while protecting society from them, out front destructionists running around comes as little surprise. And your following article on those who are trying to justify US torture falls into this same desperate "thinking". No one and nothing better exemplifies and validates how unfortunately effective the 9-11 terrorists were, than these irrational terrorized people who left reality, facts, values and laws behind and continue to blindly, fearfully and frantically screech.

Sooner or later they'll think of the worst possible name they could ever call them — republicans!
