Call it a hunch but I think there’s a bit of three-dimensional chess in Obama’s decision to release those horrific Bush torture memos.

I’ve already started to sense a shift in the debate. Whereas before, the wingnuts could (and did) claim that that we didn’t torture anyone. With the release of the memos, I predict they will move their debate entirely into the realm of “torture is good — it works”. We’ll see…

Cheney is the poster child of this argument! And the memos tossed out into the brush will smoke out the rats…watch.

Yep, Cheney has been making this claim for some time. Just because the evidence is not on his side does not mean he will change his mind. I wish I was more optimistic about the memos forcing Obama to enforce the law, but I am growing increasingly pessimistic that we will see real accountability unless we demand it.

last night on Keith Olbermann, former military investigator, Matthew Alexander talking about his book 'How to Break a Terrorist". He says torture does not work and has contributed to thousands of American troops deaths in Iraq. Very smart man, read for yourself on MSNBC.com

yeah, i've heard that guy before. powerful stuff… for people who think. it really is amazing how completely fact-free the GOP has become. torture works! cutting taxes increases revenue! obama is a muslim! sigh…
