... (0 comments)I was suddenly struck today by how dramatic it is for a black man named Barack Hussein Obama to be touring Europe today as our President.
Think about that for a moment. No matter how enlightened and progressive our friends across the pond are, there is absolutely no conceivable scenario in which a black man with an immigrant father could rise to the highest government position in Britain, Germany, France, Italy or any other country you could name off the top of your head.
I hate to buy in to the mind-numbing “exceptionalist” meme that so pervades Washington but — you know what — in this specific instance, I am damn proud to be an American. I praise our country for having the ability to elect one of the most daring, innovative and non-establishmentarian Presidents of recent memory. Viva Obama!

(0 comments)Since it’s Mitt Romney week everywhere, I figured I’d post this op-ed by an ex-Mormon, which is a pretty interesting take at the institutional culture of the LDS church. Not much to say about it, but it’s definitely worth 5 or so minutes of your time. (0 comments)Why Bipartisanship Is Impossible, In One Sentence

It’s amazing to me that Mitt Romney brings up France as a scary comparison point to himself so often when he spent years there and speaks the language. It’s such a minor point, but telling. Of all the people running for president, Mitt Romney has to be the most aware that the rightwing caricature of ... (0 comments)Mother Teresa Doesn't Deserve Sainthood
Case in point. It’s amazing how all the famous/respected Catholic figures from the 1990s have turned out to be incredibly corrupt, isn’t it? I’m sure they’re somehow connected. Of course, as I’m a Protestant I know little about such things. (1 comments)I Fixed It! Ban Sitting Politicians From Running For Another Office

I. With the same celebration and amazement, I too am waking up to the FACT that this "President OBAMA Dream" has actually become a REALITY, and I can barely keep up with the pace, policies, politics, courage, brilliance, change and "all court" strategy and ability of Obama and his team. Like you, I'm so damn proud that he is representing us. Talk about HOPE! We've elected a brilliant leader who is both Catalytic and Charismatic, with grounded reasonable values, vision, pragmatism, code of honor, endurance, family and health. Even when I'm completely exhausted with all of the issues and challenges of our times, he and his team keep trucking on, and on, and on…sprinting. It's already stunning. (see 2.)
2. And i just don't sense that this is his/their 6 month opportunity stretch, or that they'll slow down and lose drive or effectiveness. It's a new era, and we are amazingly fortunate to have ringside seats to the birth of this new era, as well as even having invitations to actively participate in meaningful ways. I have my first 2 grandchildren now, and I'm already writing down as much as I can to document this moment in history, so that when I'm gone from this world, they will know what this moment was like, how we felt, how so much finally began to change the year they were born. I'm just so deeply deeply relieved and ever so proud.

well to be fair I dont think europe has a high number of black people by percentage so by probablity its more unlikely
