Think about this for a second. People who identify themselves as “non-religious” make up 15% of the U.S. population according to a recent study. Compare that with the tiny 1.4% of Americans who belong to the Mormon Church.

There is a minority group in America that is a bigger percentage of the country than blacks or Hispanics. But they are often ignored or derided in public. Almost no politician would ever admit to being one. And they are given no voice in the public arena.

They are the non-religious. A new comprehensive study by The Program on Public Values at Trinity College shows that this group is now a whopping 15% of the country. Mormons by comparison are a puny 1.4% of the population, and people can’t shut up about the Mormons. The Senate Majority Leader is a Mormon, one of the top Republican presidential candidates was Mormon and even HBO has a whole show devoted to them.

The sad part is that only 15% say they are not religious…what about the countless who are simply afraid to admit it out of fear they will be chastized. I also find it odd that the Catholics make up such a comparatively large percentage of the Christians and seem to be only a fraction as loud.

Yes, if they admit that they do not believe then the hate mongers will attack. I cannot believe that we allow these people to get away with calling themselves Christians. While I feel sorry for people who do not believe in Gos, it is their choice, and their right. Now those who attack my beliefs will gernerally be meet with withering scorn, because of their attack on my beliefs.
