A new poll conducted by USA Today and Gallup find that two-thirds of the American public want our current government to investigate Bush era crimes and abuses of power:

Close to two-thirds of those surveyed said there should be investigations into allegations that the Bush team used torture to interrogate terrorism suspects and its program of wiretapping U.S. citizens without getting warrants. Almost four in 10 favor criminal investigations and about a quarter want investigations without criminal charges. One-third said they want nothing to be done.
This is pretty compelling stuff. Although only a quarter of those surveyed favored actual criminal prosecutions, the vast majority of Americans want to see the truth finally come out. As I mentioned in a post last month, I believe the best way to accomplish this is through a “truth and reconciliation” commission along the lines of what happened in South Africa.

I would like to see investigations with some sort of repercussions for the simple reason that I don't want future administrations to be able to get away with thinking they are above the law. I think Bush broke laws and abused power, but my opinions don't count for much in the grand scheme of politics, so having an investigation to bring any improprieties into the public eye is the only way to avoid this situation in the future. If he didn't do anything wrong, then the investigations should also show that and issue a big "stfu" to Bush's accusers.

On the flip side, it's possible that such investigations would even more severely divide the country, although it's hard to imagine much more of a division than there is now. I like to think that it's just Congress and that mainstream America isn't that bad, but sometimes it's really hard to tell.

I support investigations based on comments from Republicans regarding the Patriot Act…if they are innocent, then they have nothing to worry about.

Nice blog template btw ;-) I got the same one lol.
