I am watching HBO’s Trials of Ted Haggard, which follows the disgrace of former Christianist evangelical leader Ted Haggard after he admitted to drug use and hiring a male prostitute.
I don’t have too much to say about it. The story is truly sad, less so for his particular situation than for the fact that the rabid Christianist fanatics in this country ruin so many peoples’ lives for the simple fact that they were born to love people of the same gender. I fear for the future of our country if we don’t someday completely leave behind the insipid hatred embodied by the Sarah Palins and Jerry Falwells in our midst.
