I don’t know how I missed this polling data from back in December:

Three-quarters of U.S. adults (75%) favor either marriage or domestic partnerships/civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. Only about two in 10 (22%) say gay and lesbian couples should have no legal recognition.
That’s pretty stunning. Three-quarters of Americans favor at least civil unions for gay couples, with only 22% saying that gay people should just go burn in hell already and stop trying to interfere with their God-given right to hate.

Too bad the conservative base has a solid ground game for combating this issue. They make people think it is a choice between their religion and the gays. Sadly, many people fall for it because being against gay-marriage is more comfortable.

agreed, although i think prop 8 in CA will finally do some good in punching the controversy-averse national gay leadership off of their perch of milquetoastitude

      • DB says:

I agree there. Prop 8 (idealistically) should be just what the gay-rights movement needs. So far they have been relatively quiet. They need a well-known national leader to help unite this fight for them. It is winnable.
