Funny how it turns out that the people who consume the most porn come from the most Christianist states in the Union:

Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

“Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by,” Edelman says.

This new Gallup poll is pretty remarkable:

Obama’s overall approval rating jumped to 67 percent.

The more dramatic development?

His approval rating among Republicans jumped 15 points – from 27 to 42 percent in a week.

This is obviously great news for the Republican Party and their all-obstruction-all-the-time strategy. 2010 is probably going to be a bloodbath.

John Cole points us to a new poll up on rabid right-wing nutjob Sean Hannity’s website:

What kind of revolution appeals most to you?
– Military Coup
– Armed Rebellion
– War for Secession
Yes, you read that correctly. Sean Hannity is trying to gauge which form of out-and-out treason his listeners favor most.

Think I’m being dramatic?

Here’s the definition of treason:

Oran’s Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as: “…[a]…citizen’s actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation].” In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavour.
The decay of the Republican Party has been sad to watch over these last many months. Batshit-crazy stuff like this, however, is starting to truly frighten me.

This image from Feministe pretty much sums up the proven stupidity of Congress’ new push to fund abstinence-only education:
Take action now and add your voice to the chorus of Americans calling for this wasteful, religiously-motivated stupidity to end.

This is hilarious:

Last night’s speech by Bobby Jindal was quite possibly one of the most sophomoric, patronizing pieces of garbage I’ve witnessed in recent years. There were several moments where I sat back and thought to myself, “Does this guy think we’re infants?”

It looks as if I wasn’t the only one who had this reaction. Even a number of conservative voices are expressing their disappointment with Jindal’s pathetic exercise in infantile nihilism.

Here’s David Brooks:

Even the caterpillar-brains over at Fox News got in on the action:

Who wants to place bets on whether we don’t hear a peep from Schoolmarm Jindal in the next few weeks?

Update: Paul Krugman wins for the prize for my favorite quote on Jindal’s speech (re: his absurd mocking of volcano monitoring):

Basically, the political philosophy of the GOP right now seems to consist of snickering at stuff that they think sounds funny. The party of ideas has become the party of Beavis and Butthead.

Obama’s speech last night was, in my opinion, second only to his game-changing speech on race. Here’s the video:

Republican Governor John Huntsman (from staggeringly conservative Utah) recently lambasted the Republican “leadership” in Congress in some breathtakingly honest remarks. As John Cole opined, sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due:

“I don’t even know the congressional leadership,” Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. told editors and reporters at The Washington Times, shrugging off questions about top congressional Republicans, including House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. “I have not met them. I don’t listen or read whatever it is they say because it is inconsequential – completely”…

“That’s why no one is paying any attention,” he said. “Our moral soapbox was completely taken away from us because of our behavior in the last few years. For us to now criticize analogous behavior is hypocrisy. We’ve got to come at it a different way. We’ve got to prove the point. It can’t be as the Chinese would say, ‘fei hua,’ [or] empty words.”

Good job, Governor. I hope your honest words don’t land you in too much hot water with the nutjob ideologues in your party.

I don’t know how I missed this polling data from back in December:

Three-quarters of U.S. adults (75%) favor either marriage or domestic partnerships/civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. Only about two in 10 (22%) say gay and lesbian couples should have no legal recognition.
That’s pretty stunning. Three-quarters of Americans favor at least civil unions for gay couples, with only 22% saying that gay people should just go burn in hell already and stop trying to interfere with their God-given right to hate.
